Roshan was a PhD student in SEAK Lab from 2019 to 2025. He got his B.Tech. in Mechatronics at SRM University, Chennai, India and his M.S. in Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University. His undergraduate research was on the development of a single moving camera based stereo vision system for scene reconstruction. His Masters Thesis was on “Calibration of Linear Imager Camera for Relative Pose Estimation”.
He has completed an internship at German Aerospace Center (DLR) at Braunschweig, Germany from June 1st, 2022 to August 24th, 2022. The topic of his internship was state space reduction for verifying spacecraft operational designs and his tasks were the formulation and improvement of different local and global deadlock checkers to detect the presence of deadlocks in state system representations of satellites and attempting to mitigate the state space explosion issue that arises from the deployment of one such deadlock checker (the Unfolding-based Dynamic Partial Order Reduction model checker). The internship was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Philipp Chrszon.
His main work was in the NSF funded project regarding Knowledge and Data Driven Design of Mechanical Metamaterials, a collaborative project between Dr. Selva of Texas A&M and Dr. Silberstein from Cornell University. He also worked on tradespace exploration and optimization algorithms for Earth Observation Satellite Systems (EOSS) design using VASSAR. He has developed a framework to identify and leverage promising design heuristics with different implementations to improve the design search efficiency in evolutionary multiobjective optimization algorithms. He has also developed adaptive approaches to incorporate design heuristics as soft constraints (Coevolutionary Heuristic Incorporation for Design Optimization (CHIDO)) and repair operators (Heuristics Enabled Learning for Adaptive Design Optimization (HELADO)). The journal manuscripts of the comparison studies of these approaches with the state of the art are in preparation as of graduation (August 2025).
